Hello:

Can anyone EXPLAIN WHY "Compton's Inreactive Encyclopedia 1995" (1992-1996 date on CD) for Win3.1 / Win95 . . . gives me the error message in the above SUBJECT line.

FACTS:

I installed this program on Windows ME 4.90.300.
I have the Cinepak Codecs installed ( iccvid.drv & iccvid.dll ).
The SYSTEM.INI file shows all the codecs - except "DVA.386" which this program says it ADDED to SYSTEM.INI file.
I've tried everything - except transpose the AVI files to another format using "Microsoft's VIDEDIT" utility.

MY MACHINE:

eMachines eTower 667ir
Intel Celeron 667MHz Processor
Windows ME 4.90.3000
AC'97 Integrated Digital Audio Controller
Intel 82810 Graphics Controller 4.12.01.2636
Samsung CD-ROM drive
Samsung CD-R/RW drive
64MB RAM
21MB Free RAM
14GB Hard Drive
REALPLAYER ( 3.0 - I think )
APPLE QUICKTIME 5.0
WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 7.0

Everything in the program works correctly, including AVI Movies . . . but I get the (SUBJECT) message when I try to open AVI SLIDESHOWS, AVI ANIMATIONS, and the AVI GUIDED TOUR by Captain Piccard ( Star Trek ).

ALL SOUNDS work correctly.

I've been told that I will NEVER get this encyclopedia to work correctly in Windows ME . . . if this is true, would someone please EXPLAIN WHY it will never work ?????

If it IS possible to get it working correctly, please let me know what I should do.

Thanks for any help or explanations.

This is something that can
happen within some Windows operating systems. You simply do not
have the proper"AVI decompressor/movie player" on your system.
The quick-fix to thisproblem is to eliminate the AVI files associated
with start-up (hence the'vids:cvids' error message you have.

After you unassociate the AVI files then reassociate with CINEPAK. YOu will have to have a player that supports CINEPAK.

Good Luck!!
