Hi

I had posted a problem with my windows crashing earlier on, and found out where to start looking - at microsoft.com troubleshooting and support - the "events & errors" page.

However, when I type in "system error" and "1003", the search comes back saying "your search has produced no results".

I have been flip-flopping all over the internet trying to find out why my computer is crashing and giving me a blue screen that counts down to 99 before it restarts every time I use one of my programs.

As I said before, it is not a virus, trojan or spyware as I have 4 programs catching these things.
I think it is an operator induced crash, not a bug, because particularly in frontpage, it crashes whenever I try to insert a second row into a table.

Here is the original message I posted:

"Hi

I have a specific problem which I have searched for the answer, but have not found one in this forum that I could solve my problem with:

I keep having these crashes where I get a blue screen that counts up to 99 then the system reboots. (This always happens when I am using a program such as microsoft frontpage or photopaint, and I do not have to be connected to the web for a crash to occur).
I get a message from microsoft just before my whole system crashes and starts "dumping" - the message is the standard microsoft box that says "An error has occurred, windows will have to close now, we are sorry for this inconvenience, etc........." - and it also gives another box when the system starts up again saying the following: "The system has recovered from a serious error. A log of this error has been created. To see what data this error report contains, click here".

Ok, so I click here as it says and it gives me the directory where two logs are - 1 of them I found, the other one I could not find it via a search.

1 of them is a .dmp file, and the other one looks like a sysdata.xml file

Does anyone know what these are, and I guess, how do I read them if they are .dmp files? I don't think I can open them with notebook, can I?

Would anyone be familiar with the problem I am having?

It can't be spyware, or trojans because I have cleaned out my system with 4 programs already.

Thanks!

Any dump files will not be readable in Notepad, you must use the tools that were mentioned in your original thread.

Can you supply a .jpg (if at all possible) of this "countdown window"?

Upload a screenshot for other to see

Computer stops or continually restarts with ATI RADEON video adapter

I tried to get a screenshot by pressing "printscreen", then I tried CTRL + C - but that did not work to copy the blue screen.

I noted down part of the error message though:

"Technical info:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0XC0000005, ox490BFBB, 0xF437A180, 0x00000000)
WnvKAud.sy-Address F490BFBB base at F4907000, Datestamp 3e073197"

------------------------------------------------

I also looked at the link but I couldn't find 0x0000008E in there

--------------------------------------------------

I found the parameters by double-clicking the system event viewer error line:
"Error code 100000, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f490bfbb, parameter3 f4e01aa0, parameter4 0000000."

---------------------------------------------------

I also found that when I went through the event viewer, that not only was there a source system error, but also a source application error at the same time.

I guess because I was running the program frontpage when this occurred, it registered?

Linney,
If I turn off "automatically restart after an error", will my computer just ignore when an error occurs and let me continue working in the program (frontpage) without an interruption?
Or is it absolutely necessary for me to keep going through these interruptions of that blue screen until I can fix this problem?

Thanks!

"You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen."

. No it will not let you keep working, but it may give you a better error message

. Are your current on Office Updates?

. Does it only occur on FrontPage?

. You might want to uninstall SP2 if a frequrent FrontPage user, untill some issues get sorted.

The specs for my computer are: 4cpu, 2.40GHz, 2.39GHz, 512MB of ram

I took my computer in to a technician 3x for him to find the problem and fix it, as it was still under warranty, and he could not get it to crash so that he could diagnose the problem and fix it.
That is what he told me anyways.

He updated the drivers, and told me that he had taken off a bunch of spyware. But that is all he did. He never fixed the problem, nor would he let me into the back of his shop so that I could get it to crash.

Should I be changing technicians, if I can't fix this problem on my own? LOL!!

. see faq608-4650 or more simply, try my antispyware/malware program of the Month: Giant Antispyware:
. Take the computer back, and ask the Technician to explain each and every entry in Event Viewer, and its resolution. If you Start, Run, eventvwr.exe, the fifth icon (little hand on a piece of paper) on the second menu row will let you save the data to a printable text file to take with you.

Ok, well thanks for your input, I appreciate it very much........:)

Am still searching for 0x0000008E with the exact same parameters I have noted, and I hope I find it soon.

If I can't find it, I'll try taking it back to the technician, although the warranty for my machine has run out. Personally, I think he should really have been able to fix it in the first place, if I can get this far and I don't know anything about fixing computers.........lol!

The clue to your problem is WnvKAud.sys, suggestions included to resolve this issue are, obtain and install the most current drivers for your Winnov hardware from the following Winnov Web site:

Copied from

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn't catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

“STOP 0x0000008e” Error Message During Windows XP Setup {KB 315335} Win XP

Games: “Stop” Error Message That References Nv4_disp.dll {KB 325730} Flight Simulator, other games (with Nvidia-based video adapter)

Your Computer Stops Responding When You Use the Highlighter Feature & the Font Color Feature {KB 829578} Win XP

Check very hard for updated Audio and Video drivers for your system, or throw out the video/sound card and replace them with something else:

Based on:

"I have a Winnov Videum 1000+ card and the drivers for XP suck, I ocassionally get the Blue Screen of Death caused by "wnvkaud.sys".

It is not WinXP that is faulty, but a piece of software and a 3rd party driver. Before I got the Winnov card, WinXP was up and running for 8 months and no lockups."
