I have an MSI KT3 Ultra2 motherboard, with AMIBIOS v5.6.

In the boot sequence the options "DEL:setup F11:boot menu F12: Network boot" appear after the memory check, albeit distressingly fleetingly.

On pressing the del key the message changes to "go[arrow symbol]setup", and the boot continues regardless of any further key presses.

I ought to say that I am trying to install WXP on a new hard drive. I also have a dead floppy drive which I can't replace at the moment. I can't boot from the XP CD, as the sequence stops at "A: drive error". I suspect that the floppy seek is enabled, which is why I want to get into the setup.

The "A; drive error" screen also boasts the "del:setup ..." options, but trying to invoke them produces the same useless result as above, with no further action.

I am probably making some very stupid error, and if anyone would point out to me what it is I would be grateful.

try pressing the del key several times during the boot sequence at one second intervals. If all else fails try resetting the cmos. Just a thought but you might try removing all ide devices and try again, sometimes an unpartioned/unformatted hd will cause a hang on boot.

To make it easier as to when to press the DEL key to get into the BIOS, turn on the power and watch the 3 LEDs on your keyboard. Just after the 3 LEDs flash once, press the DEL key.

This works on all pc's. Some pcs need the F2 key pressed to get into setup. When the keyboard LEDs flash once, then press the appropriate key. Easy.
