Hello,

I am doing a project involving formatting of a bunch of Word2000 documents. One of them is giving me a serious problem...I can't save any of my changes. After I make any change and try to close the file, I am prompted as to whether I want to save the changes I made. If I choose yes, nothing happens and the file just sits there. If I choose no, the file closes normally.

The document isn't read only, and isn't protected by the Tools-Protect Document method so I don't know how to proceed. I don't have this problem with any other documents.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks, Bear

Did you try:

#1:
OPEN doc.
SAVE AS ...(change location and name)
EXIT Word2K
RESTART word2k
OPEN doc you just saved as (see above)
add a space to the end of the doc and try saving again.

#2:
OPEN doc.
create NEW doc.
cut & paste to NEW doc.
CLOSE old doc.
SAVE the NEW doc.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had tried the first and it didn't work. The second did.

Sometimes the temp files are not closed/deleted when you close a document. I have had this happen before.

Search for files with either a tilde or *.tmp delete these files and it should work fine.

huggybear,

This may seem silly, but check the default save options for the program and file. Go to Tools, Options, Save tab and check that the default for "Save Word files as:" is set to Word document (*.doc). Then check the Compatibility tab and check that the recommended options are set to Microsoft Word 2000. Then close the program, when trying to save the file again, choose Save as and check the file type to ensure it is saving as a Word document.

Hope this helps.

You're welcome, but you didn't have to give me a star.

It's just one of those "Quick Fixes" to help you move on but it still doesn't resolve the original problem.

Try one of the other suggestions listed above on the original document. They are both valid solutions. --MiggyD
