Can't edit the mSysObjects table

I've got some linked tables in an access database. When I first linked the tables I clicked the save password button to save people having to type it in every time.

Trouble is, that this is no longer acceptable from a security point of view and i need to remove the password. I've had a look around and found that the passwords are stored in the mSysObjects table, but I don't appear to be able to change this table (to remove the password bit of the connection).

Anybody know a way around this?

Just spotted the error message at the bottom of the screen when I attempt this:

control can't be edited; it's bound to replication system column

you're not supposed to be able to edit that table, and there's no way to get around that, as far as I know.

you'll have to do this the long way by first removing the linked tables, and then re-linking them without saving the passwords.

it's not too difficult to write a function to do this if you've got a LOT of tables...

Is it better from a security point of view to give the database password to everyone and allow them access to the back-end table? Surely it would be better to use either Access security or a tied-up mdw, which would prevent the ordinary user from getting access to system tables.

You're probably right Remou, this isn't a very secure system at all. What is this tied up mdw you talk of?

Sorry, bad typing, I mean mde - that is, an mde with all the start-up options set to false and a custom toolbar. You will also need to switch off the Shift over-ride. If you go in this direction, make sure you keep a good copy of the mdb for development.
