My friend has recently subscribed to verizon DSL. He is browsing with IE and MSN. He is operating with windows 98 SE. He can get online fine, however, he can not download. Any suggestions? We have disabled macaffee AV no change. Much appreciated.

Has he contacted Verizon? It sounds like his firewall is not set up correctly.

"can not download"

Do you mean that he can select a file and it refuses to download, or he gets a "404" error, or something else?
Is this true for all sites, or just some sites? When trying to download, does he get any error messages? If so, con you post the error?

Try right click and choose "save target as" instead of clicking to download

Delete your temporary internet files, I've often found this to cure your problem.

From Internet Explorer window, tools>internet options>delete files.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Jomama46,
Thanks for this great work around. It did not solve the initial problem, however, he can at least get the files he needs from the internet now.
Thanks again. Much appreciated.
