I get a busy signal when I start to dial the first 3 digits after the area code of an LD number. The busy signal starts after the last digit, 6, is entered. If I use any other digit than 6 I don't get a busy signal. I have been told this is a new local exchange, 556, in the calling area code 305. I have a Definity G3Si with Release 9.1. I can call the number from my cell phone without a problem. Thanks for the help getting rid of this headache that's eaten up half my day so far.

Contact your LD carrier and inform them of the issue. If it's a new exchange, it's possible that the information is not in their tables as of yet.

Thank you Susan. I called into the automated ticket system of my LD carrier to follow your suggestion. Also I was able to get passed the busy signal by ch ars ana 1305 and adding the string 1305556 and all the rest of the entries. So now I get the recording from the LD carrier that my call cannot be completed as dialed. I'm going to look at the other ars ana for 305 as well then wait for the LD carrier to call.

Before you get too carried away, I'd make darn sure the problem is not in the switch by allowing dial access in the trunk group and trying to dial it using the TAC & the number. At least then you can tell them definitively that it is their problem.

Thanks Paul for your input. I was able to find the TAC for the trunk group but I haven't dialed a TAC before. When I dial the TAC I get a busy signal. I'd like to know the dialing procedure but I came in this morning and found out the user had tried the number again yesterday afternoon and he was able to make the call. I had already contacted the LD carrier before you posted so I guess they made some change to allow the calls to go through. I will try to find out what they did when I follow up on the ticket.

Shoehorn,

Good luck finding out what the LD carrier did.

Canned SVC provider response:
"We didn't do anything i guess the problem was with the LEC or your Equipment"

in the future try routing the call over another trunk group (hapefully a different provider) before you call that way you can tell ATT that MCI routes it just fine or visa versa.
