the machine is restarted and stil the same error

what could it be?

Not sure, but I had a problem where I couldn't delete a folder. Went into dos, renamed the folder, then deleted it. Good luck.

thanks ill give it a go n let u kno how it goes

nah no backup on it, thanks newayz :)

For the folders that you cannot delete, are you getting a Windows pop-up box that states access denied, or does it just state that the file is in use. I have a couple of suggestions. Did you check the Task Manager to on the 'Processes' tab to see if any associated processes were running. If so you can do an End Task, becareful with this process so you do not end the wrong one. Check the Windows Knowledge Base Article Q197155 for killing an orphaned task. Check the folders: You can change the properties for each folder you are trying to delete; you can add a special permission for your ID and check the box for delete. Let me know how it goes.

I have had this before, after the usual checks to make sure that no programs/applications/processes are using the file I found that the best way round to was to rename the file, then delete it.

ok if i look at the security on the folders it has nuthing there so i put full control for everyone but then this isnt applied to all the files within the folder

how would i apply a permission to a folder and everything in oit

i worked it out now

thanks for everything and all your help :)

it was a permission thing

thanks alot

Glad the permission tip worked for you. I have had this problem before and now that I know what to look for it definitely save me a lot of time. Be sure to reset the permissions if it affected any other folders. I am not sure if you found this(based on your question), but generally there is a check box or button so that sub-directories can inherit the permissions from the parent folder.
