Hello:

Win98 (not Win98SE) Operating System.

In Device Manager - Hard Disk Controllers (in Safe Mode ) I found the following . . .

Intel 82371SB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
Intel 82371SB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
Intel 82371SB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)

I removed the first (3) PARENT entries - but the (6) CHILD entries remained. After rebooting, shutting down, and rebooting again to Safe Mode . . . I noticed only (1) PARENT (82371SB) plus the other (6) CHILDREN entries "still there."

In the DEVICE USAGE:
Only the THIRD Primary and the THIRD Secondary entries were "checked" as EXISTS IN ALL HARDWARE PROFILES.

There are NO "checked boxes" in DEVICE USAGE for the other (4) CHILDREN . . . and they can't be removed because there are NO PARENTS to remove first.

QUESTION:
How do I remove Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo) entries (1 & 2) and Secondary IDE Controllers (dual fifo) entries (1 & 2) ?????

In REGISTRY:
HKLM\Enum\MF\CHILD0000\ . . . there are (3) KEYS.
HKLM\Enum\MF\CHILD0001\ . . . there are (3) KEYS.

More INFO upon request - THANK YOU.

OK Gargouille:

Dear Wirdo,
A star is nice but a pleasant thank you is better and identifies the person who gave it.

A star and a pleasant thank you is even better and still lets you wonder,
"Who gave me the Star?"

No offence I hope, just thinking aloud
??

Regards Jim

Hi Wirdo and James33:

No offence taken - but, I really did try to mark GARGOUILLE's post as helpful and got an ERROR message when trying to do so.

That's why I thanked him in a POST.

Will try to mark him AGAIN . . . now.

Thank you. :>)

I agree thanks are good too, but I like stars though it makes me fill special ;-)
