Can't connect to website locally

I'm running windows 2000 advanced server and IIS. I can access the websites fine from an external connection, but I cannot access from a computer on the same network. In firefox, I get a message that the connection was refused. I'm not sure where in IIS I need to configure this, or if I need to enter a static route in my DNS server for the site.

I tried searching the forums for this and was unable to find anything. Any suggestions/ideas?

Can you ping the server? In the configuration, is the site mapped to all unassigned IP's or is it on a specific one? Are you using the IP to access it? What does your network config look like?

I can ping it, by name and IP. Mapped to all unassigned, network is just 2 servers, both running win2k, the other being the AD controller and DHCP server, but both servers have static IPs. They are connected to a switch which, in turn, connects to the DSL router to go to the internet.

Perhaps your router does not support loopback? If you do an nslookup on the site name, does it resolve to the internal private IP of the IIS box, or the external public IP?

It resolves to the external IP address.

I forgot to mention, the router is a Briteport 8120 from broadxent. I looked at their page but was unable to locate information on if it supported loopback.

Stick an entry in your local hosts file on your machine such as:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

http://www.domain.com

Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the LOCAL Lan IP and

http://www.domain.com

is the name of the server that currently resolves to the external IP.

Another thing that I should have mentioned *slaps self* is that the name of the site and the name of the domain are different.

The site is, for example, is

http://www.site.us,

while the domain is name.local.

I keep scouring the web for DNS info and I'm not sure if I need to create a new zone for this or just an A record.

A new domain will require a new zone, AND an A record.

That did it. Adding the zone and appropriate A record now allows me to go to the site.
