Hello, I have a catalyst 2820, and i have been trying to get on to the console port to config the switch and i keep coming up with an error of ATQ0H0 and then goes to ATQ0Z0.

I have learned that this means that its the wrong cable or something along that lines, but i have tryed many different cables and when i downloaded the manual off the cisco site.. it tells me that i have an RJ45 jack for a console port and the switch has a DB9 console port. I have been unable to find anymore info on how to get into the console port on this switch.

The other thing that is i am able to get onto the Diagnostic console of the switch and reset the unit fo factory and what not.. but thats all i can get to

does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
-Andy

If memory serves the standard Cisco DB9 adapter and console cables will not work.....I think if you get a Null modem cable you should be able to connect to the console port. If the port on the switch is DB9 style console then this cable should do the trick.

I have tryed a Null modem cable, and almost every type of serial cable i have been able to find and i still can not get into the console port of this switch. But when using a null modem cable, i get 2 new error before it goes back to the 2 old ones.. TQ0H0 and ATQ0Z.

Again the odd thing about all this is that i can get into diagnostic console and reset to factory defaults and what not.. when i goto Continue with standard system start up. it goes through the self test and onces its done. it comes up with the errors.

Does anyone have any idea how to get this thing working?

Thanks

I would try different speed settings on your terminal emulator , possible someone changed the console port speed on your 2820.

I have tryed all the setting.. i have also tryed a few different terminal emulators. I have also been able to go in to the "Diagnostic Console - System Debug Interface" and reset to factory defaults and Reset main console RS232 interface to 9600,8,1,N.

but i still get the error codes.

Can you post the error codes you are getting. Might be the the OS on the switch is corrupt and needs to be re-installed.

Here are all the error codes i am getting;

- ATQ0H0
- ATQ0Z0
- TQ0H0
- ATQ0Z

The bottem 2 are new ones.. but the first 2 i have been getting ever since i got the switch. when i connect to the console it will show ATQ0H0 and ATQ0ZO and it will alter and never change.

With the new null modem cable i got it will show TQ0H0 or ATQ0Z before it goes to ATQ0H0 and ATQ0ZO.

When using the null modem cable did you make sure that your terminal emulation software is set to use the com port and not a modem. Those are modem errors and you are not using one.
