can't burn cd's

i am using windows 2000 pro with administrator rights. installed roxio easy cd creator. when i try to open the wizard, i receive an error. followed all of roxio's tech support help to try and fix with no luck. so i removed for about the 10th time, and installed nero instead. nero will only let me burn to an image, gives incorrect function error when trying to burn to cdrom drive. i have the latest drivers installed for the cd rw drive. and it shows as working in device manager. and i can read from the drive, just not burn to it. so i ran anti virus and anti spyware, no luck. so uninstalled nero, installed freeware cd burn software. i was able to burn one cd using this program, but then the computer locked up, and after reboot would get explorer.exe errors, and nothing working right. uninstalled the freeware, everything back to normal. any suggestions?

1) check the manufacturers website for firmware updates for your CD burner

2) install the lastest aspi drivers from

http://www.adaptec.com

try again and report back

The Adaptec utility is kind of lame.
ForceASPI attempts to compensate.

when i first read your post, i thought they were a different set/type of AsPI Drivers, but i see now it's just a deployment tool.
