I have an old pc which I am trying to learn with which is running win95 with a 486 proccessor a type 39 c drive and a type 49 d drive with a sony cd drive.I copied all the windows files from c to d and then deleated the windows files from c. So the result is that when I try to boot i get the message"the following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DRVSPACE.SYS There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 7" also"VMM32.VXD is required to run Windows. If this file is not in your PATH, you may need to reinstall Windows." I have tried to boot with the start up diskette, but all i get to is A:\> I don't know enough DOS to go any further. I have the win95 installation cd.How can I run it and reinstall windows from DOS ?

I cannot remember win 95 installation but here are some pointers.

get the Win95 boot disk and boot with CDROM support.
Go to CDROM (E: drive i guess) by typing

E:

and then run setup type

setup <Enter>
(<Enter> means press the enter key)

If windows detect you have a version of Win 95 already installed you may need to delete the D: drive Windows directory as well.

Follow the instructions to install.

Note: You cannot just copy the D: drive contents back to C: drive or you will just have the old windows settings (including all the problems). Also, if you just copy the "program files" directory, don't expect to see it in the "start" menu.

If you don't have a boot disk, maybe you can create a boot disk from you CD drivers in your D: drive (assuming they still exist).

You will need to get a 98 boot disk to have a hope of cdrom support. You can download one from the net at bootdisk.com or other locations.
From the a:>
format c: /u to format, then when finished
e:
setup
Test to make sure that the cd is on e: before you start. Ed Fair

I used the win98 startup disk and used option 1"start computer with cd-rom support" then received the message "This driver is provided by Oak Technology,Inc.. OTI-91X ATAPI CD-ROM device driver,Rev D91XV352
Device Name :MSCD001
No drives found,aborting installation.

-->ERROR:PCI READ CONFIGURATION FAILURE

AIC-6260/6360/6370 ASPI Manager for DOS
ver 3.68s

I also downloaded an intallation diskette for my SONY CD_ROM DRIVE and ran it.I started with the win95 start up diskette and then changed to the installation diskette
. I typed INSTALL <ENTER> and it installed properly. However after that I still received the same messages using the win98 start up diskette.I do not have any other intallation diskettes for win95 only the CD,so how can I reinstall win95?

Your sony has a driver that loads to allow access. You need that driver on the win95 or 98 boot floppy with the full line (includes /d:something)in config.sys and an autoexec.bat with a call to mscdex and a modifier /d:something.
Sometimes you can load the driver stuff to the hard drive and install from there onto the boot floppy. Sometimes you can't.
The error message on the 98EBD is because the OAK driver can't find the sony drive.
One way of figuring out what is needed is to convert the c: to a DOs system (from A:> sys c:), remove the autoexec.bat and config.sys files and install the cd drivers. You'll be able to see with them what you need on your floppy. Ed Fair
