Can't access Sytem restore

When I start SR thru Start programs I get SR unable to protect computer please restart.I go thru control panel to system to SR I get exception occured while trying to run
"shell,32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\System32\sysdm.cpl",System".I've tried to run in safe mode get no where,tried Last good settings.SR is enabled in the registry.Running XP home on 120gb Westen digital with Win98 on other harddrive.

Might be you have insufficent priviliges are you definately admin and not a power user

I know it dosent even start but maybe you have a problem there.
Make sure your not infected with a virus, download and run AVG if you havent got an antivirus

This is a hard one to troubleshoot. See if any of these articles help. Also look in your Event Viewer to see if there are any more errors which might give you a few more clues.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.


You could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
