Cant access network over VPN

I just installed a Sonicwall VPN on a win 2k domain. I contacted Sonicwall and they helped me set up the VPN. When I connect from home I get a good connection and I can ping all the servers, etc that are on our network but I cant see any shares at all. If I try to hit them by, for example using \\fileserver1 then I get an error where I usually get all the shares. I believe this to be a permission type of problem but I am stuck as to how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can access to the mail system but not share

Symptoms: 1) After establishing a VPN, the VPN client can access the mail system to receive/send mails but can't access other network resources. 2) When attempting to access a shared folder, the client may be asked for the username and password. 3) Some of users may not have this issue.

Cause: This is cached credentials issue, especially you use third party VPN

This may help diagnosis my problem. I can hit a server by using its i.p. address //192.168.0.6 instead of its name //2kserver1. Does this have something to do with netbios? Could the isp be part of the problem?

It is a name to IP address resolution problem.

If you are running WINS at your main site then program the client with the IP address of the WINS server so that when you type in a name it goes to the WINS server to lookup the IP address associated with it.

Another way to get around the problem is to create a hosts file which contains the name and IP address of your server(s)
