I was having problems when my computer started windows so I did a repair with the Windows XP Pro Disk. After the repair everything seemed fine until I tried to connect via Dial-up to the internet. Everytime I try it says there is no modem configured but if you check modems it is fine and it dials through Hyperterminal. I tried to configure the connection manually but the options for dial-up are grey-out unavailable. I called tech support for my internet provider and they suggested reinstalling dial-up networking but we couldn't find how to do it. So my question to everyone. HOW DO I REINSTALL DIAL-UP NETWORKING. I've tried another repair and also I tried an upgrade installation to my existing Windows XP pro and nothing worked. Also keep in mind I cannot format this machine because of vital data not backed up.

It sounds as if you need to re-apply Service Pack #1. This should sort the problem, but I will make other suggestions too:

Re-apply Service Pack 1 from Microsoft.

Four other items to check:

1. Q281625 - Make New Connection Wizard Selections Are Unavailable and Other Issues Occur with the Network Connections Folder

2. Some Network and Dial-Up Connections Icons May Be Missing

3. 269019 - "Network and Dial-up Connections" Folder Icons Missing

4. 329050 - Troubleshooting Missing Network and Dial-Up Connections Icons
