I have been trying to secure an Access database. I created a new workgroupfile, added users etc. My pronblem is I can't update, add, etc. my database anymare. I get the message:'Cannot update. Database or object is read-only'
Allready recreated the workgroupfile but this didn't help.
Is it a security problem? AN yone any help would be very welcome, since it seems a connot do anything in Acces at all anymore.

Make sure you are in the Admins group or a group that has all permissions.

This is not a message that would normally occur because of a permissions problem. Rather, it normally indicates that a database file has the Read-Only attribute set, or is on a network share to which you have only read permissions.

When you say you "can't do anything in Access at all any more", is that true even in other databases, and using other workgroup files? That would be very strange, indeed.

Just by means of a follow up I too was experiencing this problem when trying to update a one-field SQL table which was storing a numeric value.

When I linked to it from Access and looked at it's design, Access had modified it's datatype property to an Autonumber which was causing the problem. I deleted the link, went back to the SQL table, made the field a Primary Key and re-imported it back into Access with no worries.

When I looked at the design of the table Access was now displaying this field correctly as a Number.

Hope this dont sound to simple but I was really pulling my hair out over this one!
