cannot start full-text service

Hi -
I've installed the full-text searching and everything, and even populated the catalogs. yet, when I look under support services, the full-text service isn't running. When I right click it and try to start it, i get the error:

an error 1722 - (The RPC server is unavailable)

I had to populate the catalogs through Query Analyzer (since doing it through enterprise manager wasn't working), so I was wondering if there was any way to start the search service through query analyzer, or if you guys knew of any way to get this RPC error to go away.
