I am in a small office running Win98 on all the PC's, and WinNT on the server.

Some of the PCs are quite old and don't have CD drives, so in order to install software on them, we have to share another PC's CD drive.

I have gone to My Computer on the new PC, right clicked on the CD drive icon, but there is no option for sharing! Network File & Print Sharing options are both on, so I don't understand why it won't share.

The other new PC in the office is fine, so I have set that one up to share instead with no problem. However this is bugging me - anyone got any ideas?

In the sharing properties where you go make sure there is a "$" after the drive letter and that would look like "J$" if it is the hosts CD drive letter.

Just a thought but I am not completely sure. It is that way in Windows 2K NT.

Unfortunately I cannot get to the Properties for sharing as there is no option for sharing in the menu when you right click on the drive icon!

Sorry I missed that part of your post completely. I skipped that entire paragraph ... duh!

I will get GE to help, he he! If someone else does not get you a reply by tonight I will ok!

What I had to do when my drives weren't giving me the sharing tab, is I went back into my Home Networking Wizard, and re-setup up the computer name, etc. (I kept all the names the same, but I enabled File Sharing on the My Documents folder, and suddenly the sharing tab poped up on everything that I wanted it to. I was able to enabled file sharing and use a password, and then I turned off the sharing to the my documents folder.

You could try that, to see if the tab appears. [deejay]

What components do you have under the Network Properties window, besides File & Print Sharing? You should have Client for MS Networks. Make sure the network configuration is identical (all the same components) as the pc where it works.

If that didn't help you, try uninstalling all clients and services from that window, reboot, and readd them. You can leave the adapters alone (like Dial-Up Adapter).

That should do the trick after you reboot one last time.

Thanks! It worked after I'd unchecked the boxes for file and print sharing, rebooted, then added them again.
