While my laptop is connected to our domain I can see my local SQL Server Registration (registered under my local machine name).

When I try booting up my laptop while not connected to our domain (but logging on using the same userid/password) the local SQL Server Registration is not recognized.

Any ideas?

Thanx

JB

Where is the database located, on your laptop or on the domain? If it's on the domain there's no way your laptop will recognize it when you aren't connected. That's because it doesn't exist as far as your laptop is concerned.

Are you referring to the SQL Server registration in Enterprise Manager?

Which OS are you running? Which network library is used to connect?

What name was used register the SQL Server originally? Was an IP address used?

Have you tried to register the local server using (local) or . as the server name?

Check the client network utility to make see if you have or can create an alias for the local server. Also check which net libraries are enabled. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA
