Hi all

I'm having an odd problem that i can only put down to IE7 i recently rebuilt my laptop and tried to install IE7 beta 2. The install failed and told me to reboot, after the reboot everything seemed ok untill i tried to change my IE home page it continually changes back to MSN also MSN messenger will not save my settings so the MSN today page pops up at startup every time even tho i uncheck the box.

I know this is not spyware as i have reinstalled windows twice now and it's happened both times, oddly after the second install IE7 beta2 was fine but when i tried the new beta 3 the problem retuned.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 as an administrator and have full control of all files in my profile.

Has anyone else seen problems like this?

Thanks.

Also if i try to manually edit the start page in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
it fails as tho i don't have permissions but i have fullcontrol.

Are you running any Security type programs that are preventing the changing of your current Home Page?

Have you tried the latest new version of MSN Messenger and uninstalling your current version or re-installing it?

Internet Explorer Fix

Hi Linney

I ended up rebuilding it again and it seems ok now i've narrowed it down to either IE7 Beta 3 or the new Live Messenger, i have a feeling it was IE7 as it failed to install the first time and i started noticing it after that but i could be wrong.
Something must of been holding it open but i couldn't see what i tried Process Explorer, Adaware and AVG and didn't find anything but i still couldn't alter it even tho i made sure i was the owner of all the keys. A reeboot into safe mode allowed me to alter the 'Start Page' key, this seemed to be the only affected key.

Thanks for the links.

Hmmmm it's back. I've uninstalled mesenger no luck and i tried IE fix but it doesn't support IE7.

Any other ideas.

Cheers.

I have tried MSN Live Messenger in tandem with IE7 (beta 2??), in a Vista Beta install and do not have any Home Page problems under that configuration.

I think the keyword is BETA and it is not unusual to find problems in these early versions. Perhaps all you can do is document the fault for IE Beta 3, send it to Microsoft, and move on?

Ok cheers.

I'm going to have a bash with Process Explorer tonight, i've got to get to the bottom of this.

Cheers.

I've reinstalled Windows now and i'm not seeing it this time even though i did the same as last time and have installed IE7 Beta 3 and Live messenger.

I chatted with a friend last night and he tried to change his home page and realised he couldn't either so it's not just me.

Cheers.
