somebody recently ran an .exe file on a w2k pro machine, it had extension .zip.exe apparently. anyway, now no .exe files are able to run, and I get access denied running control panel applets. I have checked the hkey_classes_root exefile settings and they are OK, also I have checked for Sircam, also scanned for other virus/trojan/worms, has anyone got any ideas please?

Hello, julianjp.

I've no suggestion here. Just wondering. You can still run regedit.exe or regedit32.exe all the same to access to registry. Are they not .exe files?

regards - tsuji

I renamed regedt32.exe to regedt32.com as com files still work.

I found out that it was w32/verona-b worm. I fixed the registry keys and that sorted it.

Thanks for your input :)
