Hello there, I have trouble receiving Yahoo mail through my mail client Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7 Having ensured I did use the correct password by logging onto the website, I keep getting an error message

"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.co.uk responded: Error logging in. Please visit
I've ploughed through their entire help site but to no avail. I came across a statement saying that one cannot access the messages if SMTP authentication is not enabled on the mail client, is that a cause?

Thank you very much.

you've answered your own question my friend.

Thats exactly why you cant access it, it needs authorisation first.

quote : ...."The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication"...

cheers

Yes but if I choose to use secure authentication, the server comes back saying it does not support that.

SSL athentication is not necessarily the same as just 'athentication'. I don't have thunderbird, so I don't know the exact settings, but look for a setting related to your outgoing mail server like: 'use the same username & password as incoming server' or a place to manually input those values.

I've tried both SSL and secure connection but to no avail.

Is this the "free" yahoo acct or a paid one? Yahoo did away with free access via pop3 for many of their accts (I think it was one country that they still offered free pop3 access, but i dont remember which)

Ok, Yahoo mislead me. Case closed, POP is not free but I found a backdoor :) called YahooPOPs for anyone interested.

The uk yahoo page does offer pop but not the normail yahoo.com one.

thats the proggy i use, yahopops. in which case my apologies as i didnt realise yahoo pop wasnt free. But yahoo pops is excellent and is easy to use. d/l from sourceforge.

)
