cannot reach switch from another subnet

I have a Catalyst 2950. I can telnet, ping and http to it from within our subnet (10.5.22.3). When I go to another subnet (10.5.23.5) I cannot reach the switch at all, although I can reach all the other network devices on 10.5.22.x.

is there a setting on the Cisco switch which enables / disables access from another network address ?

Does your switch config have a default gateway set [i.e. know how to route back to you?]
