Hi Folks!

The search mechanism of Tek-Tips is down so I could not research before posting.

As soon as I enter in printer settings (Start-Settings-Printers) I get the following error message:

SPOOL32 caused a stack fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff7a2a1.

And the printers screen freezes so I can't delete the printers that I have there. I happens even in Safe Mode.

Suggestions?

My suggestion is uninstall the printer drivers and install updated ones OR older ones.

I have seen this happen a few times and short of a clean re-install the printer drivers that were being used still had the same problem.

Someone else may have a better idea - but in the meantime it wouldn't hurt to give mine a try ;-)

All the best. Running a PC without backups is like driving a car without a seatbealt. Your knack'ed when you crash!

Got this from the Microsoft support regarding fixing Spool32.exe errors.

Windows 95
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
Click to clear the Include Subfolders check box.
In the Named box, type config.sys autoexec.bat, and then click Find Now.
In the list of found files, right-click the Autoexec.bat file, click Rename, and then type a new name for the file (such as Autoexec.xxx).
Repeat step d with the Config.sys file.
Quit the Find tool, and then restart your computer.

Windows 98
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.
On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility.
Click Selective Startup on the General tab, and then click to clear the following check boxes:

Process Config.sys File
Process Autoexec.bat File
Process Winstart.bat File
Process System.ini File
Process Win.ini File
Load Startup Group Items

NOTE: You must reinstall the printer driver when you disable the Win.ini file because the printer and port information is stored in this file.
Click OK, and then quit the System Information tool.
Restart your computer.

I have used this on systems in our network, and it appears to have solved the problem.

Hope it helps you out. mot98

Thank you Win98User & Mot98.

I ended up deleting all printers (in safe mode I selected all them at once instead of clicking each one individually so the system didn't freeze).

I also uninstalled a couple of late installed software (NAV among them), reinstalled everything and now the system works fine.

As usual a couple questions lingers: What really happened? Why happened? Why didn't happened again (considering that I reinstalled everything that I had before)?

I guess I'm not the only one with those questions...

Best regards. Luciano R. Humberto
