Hi,

I installed a Windows 2003 server having as roles File Server and Application Server. Up to this stage I could ping to other PCs on the network from the server and vice versa. I then added the Active Controller role to the server and from then on I couldn't ping anymore.

Could anyone please help?

Thanks

Could be a DNS issue. Are you pinging via IP or hostname? Are the PC's receiving IP's via DHCP or are they statically assigned? Have the PC's been joined to the domain?

Hi,

- I'm pinging via IP
- IP's are statically assigned
- PC's cannot be joined to the domain since on doing so I get the message that "A domain controller for the domain myServer could not be contacted"

Many thanks

Have you ruled out any network issues (ping the gateway, ping the loopback IP and the IP assigned to the DC)? Any firewalls located in between the PC's and the DC?

Yes, I was pinging to and from the server with no problems, it was only after I installed the Active Controller that I'm totally stuck.

I think you have to update u r host file at system32..
for example)

10.0.3.30 server1.com
10.0.3.30 domain

good luck dude

I mean since you've installed AD. Are you able to ping from the server now (specifically, the gateway, the loopback, and the IP that you have assigned to the server)?

Hi,

I can only ping the server from the server itself.

Thanks

I would start looking at the network setup. Ensure that the gateway is correct, make sure that the switch/router that it is plugged into is allowing traffic, and make sure that the cable is in the same place you started (make sure no one moved the connection from one port to another, or damaged the cable without you knowing).
