Hi,
I cannot ping a PC running win xp from a server running Win2K. The Internet firewall in xp client is disable and i stil canot ping the xp pc. How can i resolve this?
Thanks

same subnet? different subnet?

Can you ping the server from the xp box?
Can you ping anything else from the xp box?

Hi Yes,
I can ping the server from the xp box. It seems to be a one way connection

That's certainly odd. Are there any routers/firewalls/etc inbetween these 2 devices?

Or are you running any software firewalls? i.e. Symantec Internet Security can refuse a ping.

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Both the server and the pc is on the same domain, but this is one pc with xp client on it and i am certain it does not have its own firewall
Thanks

are there other devices on the same subnet as the xp box that are pingable by the server?

Also don't forget the network card or the drivers. I've seen a lot of these weird partially working partially broken network connections come down to a bad NIC or drivers that are somehow corrupt. That's my two cents, hope you solve the problem.

David.
