Please anyone that can give me advise. I have been in the IT business for years and have had digital cameras since the day they came out! I bought my mother a sony cybershot. 3.2 pixels we took pictures and then I installed the drivers on her win98se pc. Here's the goofy part...If I copy the pictures to a folder called "album" I can open them up no problem. If create a folder inside album called "Christmas 2002" and copy the pictures into that folder I cannot open them!!! I am stumped...now my mom has to keep all her pics in one folder and of course every time she goes to cut and paste the picture number starts at dsc001.jpg and she gets the error file already exists!!

I am at a loss please help!!

How deep down the directory structure is the folder called Album? Is it at the root of C:?

Another thought. Create a subfolder under Album that is less than 8 characters (no spaces). Can you access the pictures now? May be a throw-back to the DOS 8 character limitation.

Just some thoughts. Let me know how it turns out.

You say that you can copy the files from ...\album\ to ...\album\christmas 2002\, and apparently you can copy them back as well. This means that you can both see and access the file itself.

My question is, how are you trying to open the pictures? Are you just doubleclicking on them from windows explorer? Are you using the file, open from within a program? If so, what program(s)? Mudskipper

mudskipper,

I can copy the file to a folder called album on the desktop and double click it and open it with microsoft photo editor and all is fine. If I try to create a folder inside the album folder then I paste the .jpg in that folder and double click and I get an error that the format is not supported. It won't open the .jpg.

Well, when googling photo editor "unknown file format", I pulled up a bunch of info. From your description, however, at a glance I didn't see anything that helped. Perhaps a look through it yourself would help???

Also found but I don't think it applies to you at all....

Somewhat along the same lines as beerhunter2....
What if you were to copy them to a folder that is not within the album directory...? Perhaps create a folder right off of C:\ and see if it works there. If so, then perhaps a decent workaround would be to create desktop shortcuts to the new locations. Mudskipper
