cannot map drive 1

Tried to map r drive with map and map root in the login script to no avail. Any ideas? Also have lmhost on pc across the routers.

Where are you placing your mappings in your login script?,
How are you writing them?

an example to map the drive is (MAP R G:=SYS:SKYLER)

"G:" is the mapped drive
"SYS:" is the volume
"Skyler" is a directory in the volume.

tell me if that helped or give me more detail of your problem.

Do you get any error messages when you execute the MAP command? I use the following:

MAP ROOT R:=%FILE_SERVER_VOL1:\SHARE
or
MAP ROOT G:=%HOME_DIRECTORY

The variables seem to work a lot better with NW5.x Login Scripts.

Netware Login Scripts do not respond to the UNC Path(\\drive\folder) maping that Windows does. Try either:

MAP ROOT R:=NW5\VOL1:FOLDER
or
MAP ROOT R:=%FILE_SERVER_VOL1:FOLDER

The syntax is Server name(optional) Volume nameirectory,
ETC.

THe box I am trying to map to is a windows box.
when mapping from workstation I can use the novell map or windows map and use the \\cold\reports. This works but will get dropped after awhile or at login. And to many stations to keep up with. With the mapping in the script all the NW5 servers map without a issue.

Updating with a little more info. Will try kenb solution.

I found the answer.

With nt you can use the net use command in the Novell login script.
such as #NET USE R: \\CUBA\HAVANA and it works.

With 95 it does not work because the user needs to authenicate first So Anyone know how to authenicate first then map automatically?

On 95, if the username and password credentials for Microsoft match those on Novell, then the command above will work. If they don't, it will not work -----------------------------------------------------

On windows 95/98, I use a batch file to run the "net use" that can be called from either the Registry or the startup. Or if you have zenworks, you can force run a nal to run the batch file.

As long as the username matches, if you set the password on the windows box that you are trying to map to so that it never expires (I know good admin security), you can add the password to the end of the net use statement.
