cannot login

Hi all,

I have this linux calerasystems openlinux 2.4 that gives me a lot of headache I cannot seemed to get rid of. Recently, I installed StarOffice 5.1 on my linux . After I have rebooted my system , I cannot login to my system( after I have entered my credential , the system revert back to the login screen again even the credentail I have entered is correct ).

Can anyone advice me on this?

log in as root, issue the passwd <username> and change your password. Otherwise boot up in single-user mode and take it from there.

Hi,

I cannot login as root as well. I tried to start at console mode but all I see is a screen without icons on it

At the text mode screen, assuming you see one early in boot, you should type "linux single" or something to that effect. Once you get into the system you can change root pass.
