I cannot get into my computer anymore. Understand I am very new at this so bare with me. Windows XP came with the computer and I installed instead Windows 2000. I could not remember my password and now I can't get out of that screen when it's first booting up. I have the software for Windows XP but not for 2000 anymore. Can I install Windows XP again and then just un-install the 2000? Please help.

You can do a clean install of XP - just boot from the install CD, and when it gets to the partitioning bit, use the tools to remove the existing partition (it should already be selected if its only partition - so just press the D key and then answer the confirms correctly) and create a new one for XP (or just install into the unpartitioned space - it will create a partition using all space if you do this).

You'll need your 25 character key during the install - and also have to answer a few questions (like your location)

may be useful (there are lots of sites with install help if you need it - just Google).

I'm having the same problem. I try to boot off of the Windows XP cd, but Windows 2000 always boots up and I don't know the password. What would I do in this case? I want to remove 2000 and load XP.

most of the time the user "administrator" doesnt have a password set for him so you could try logging in as admin
