Hey everyone! I need you expert help. I am running 2000 as a server. After updating explore to 6.0 and downloading the patch for it, I get this error:

Stop: c0000218 {Reg File Failure}
Registry cannot load hive file
\systemroot\system32\config\software
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable

Begining dump of physical memory

That is what it say and the computer just Halt and I can't do anything about it. I try to boot up in debug, last know config etc.. same thing. Does anyone know how to solve this probelm or how i can fix it. Thanks for any help or ideas I am willing to try anything at this point.

Change the boot sequence in BIOS setup to Floppy,CDROM,IDE, save settings & exit,reboot with the XP CD in the drive, watch the screen it will say something like searching
for boot record from Floppy, then CDROM ,then it will tell you to press any key to boot from CDROM, if it gets to the IDE then you missed it reboot and try again. Good luck

A hive file is related to your registry. It looks IE6 or its patch may have corrupted your registry. Your choices are very limited. Unless you can restore your registry your only choice is re-install. The only way I know to restore/fix your registry is to use the software from Winternals ( James P. Cottingham

See if you can un-install the patch from add/remove programs and see what that does. Glen A. Johnson

OUCH! Don't you have a backup you can restore? Do you have a Emergency Repair Disk? Glen A. Johnson

I think i found out what the problem is. I think the hive file was corrupted when I upgrade my internet explore to 6.0 and did not reboot and did the patch then rebooted. I think that may have cause it to be corrupted.

To ALL:yup, when an OS suggests that u reboot before continuing, there is a very good reason for programmers to put this coding into their programs.
Slow down and read.
