I'm not knowledgeable about xp, on a win98 machine I had been experimenting with old versions of acrobat, acrobat capture, and type manager. Some where in that process I lost the ability to use distiller (v 4.0).
To get it back I removed everthing adobe I could find and reinstalled.
I can't remember all the steps I did now, but it was something on the order of
Use add/remove programs first
then I did searches for adobe and erased all adobe directories in program files and windows areas.
then I did a shut down (power completely off)
and used mcafee utilities and eliminated any unused adobe registry links.
then i used a registry editor and eliminated every remaining reference I could find to adobe.
I then reinstalled acrobat 4 and distiller worked again.
I have no idea if that would be helpful in xp or if there is something less severe you could try.
If you choose to do something like that, you need to think through YOUR own situation carefully-it's at your own risk.
You could loose custom fonts, data files, or screw your registry up in the process.
