I am trying to add OFO to W2K domain controllers - BE8.6.

When I try to run the "Install BE options on remote computers" and select the domain controllers, it gets as far as asking for the logon ID. If I put in the domain administrator ID, it errors "The account name/ password supplied is not valid..." If I create an ID and make it an administrator on the domain, I get the error "Unable to connect to the Windows NT/2000 system. You may have entered an invalid user name or password, or you may already be logged on with a different user name or password."

What gives? Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,

What exact agent are you using? Is this installed via the Open File option wizard from the Backup Exec CD or is this the official packaged software Backup Exec 8.6~Open File Option~that costs appox $700 ?

This is the OFO license that was purchased seperately - I don't have the invoice handy, but $700 sounds about right. I do not have a CD - I downloaded the software from the Veritas web site and bought the licenses after without media. Does the CD offer additional software or features that the downloaded software doesn't?

Thanks,

If you go to tools in Backup Exec, there is an OFO Wizard that helps you install it BUT you need the original Backup Exec CD in order to install it fully. Have you tried this after you downloaded the client?

I cannot use the OFO wizard on the backup machine because the OFO agent is not installed on the target machine. I cannot install the agent on the target machine because it refuses to accept a valid user ID.

Just about all the Backup exec options are already installed. You need to add license codes and then they are active. Once the code is in you should use the OFO wizard and use the Backup account, some other admin account. OFO is very tricky, it took me weeks to get it right.

I have added the license codes. I have installed OFO on other servers successfully; I just cannot install it on the domain controllers.

When I installed OFO on the member servers, I used the domain administrator's account and met with immediate success. When I do the same on the domain controllers, I get the error messages that I detailed at the start of this thread.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks,

I'm having the same problem with installing the remote agent on a domain controller. Did you install SP3 before you tried installing OFO? That is the only thing that I have changed since the first time I installed the remote agent.

After I installed SP3, the Backup exec could not connect to the system state. I then removed the remote agent to attempt to reinstall it. That's when I encountered the problem that you described above.
