Hi,

Now I know this is the XP Pro forum but I can't find an XP home one!

anyways I am trying to set up a user with VPN access from home, I walk them through requessting the certificate with certsrv

But when they click install certificate they get the error Cannot Install Certificate Error 0x80090016.

I've googled for an hour find many posts with the same problem and no solution.

I've tried the unhide hidden folders thing, still no good, i've check the user has admin rights, no good.

Can someone help as to why I canot get the user to install the VPN server certificate?

I have managed to get ALL other users to install this certificate and one with XP Home, so it isn't an XP Home issue persae.

your help is much appreciated!

Try Windows Updates, the Recommended Updates listing (as opposed to Security ones) include something called "Root Certificates Update". It may be a good idea anyway to make sure the machine is fully updated.

15 Tips for Troubleshooting VPN Connections

Thanks Linney.

I've actually told them to get a machine with XP pro and they also need Office 2003 as a minimum spec before I start trouble shooting any further.

even if i'd got the VPN working, they didn't even have office on the machine so couldn't run the MS Access DB anyhow!!!!

It's not like they are short of money, so am awaiting them to get this minimum spec and will try again.

but appreciate the info for future reference.
