I have a win XP machine tha ti was tring to uninstall Nortons on. The first attemp left some garbage in the registry. I then went into the registry and deleted the Symantec stuff. Where I screwed up was I had reinstalled nortons and not removed it from the ADD and Remove programs yet. So I had taken the stuff out of the registry first. I went into remove the Nortons thru explorer to just do it manually and I get this error: "cannot remove navapsvc.exe"
because the process is running. I tried to kill the process and it won't let me. I did this thru TAsk Manager. I know I could get it removed manually if I could kill this process. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks

Go into "safe mode" and try. You might have to re-install Norton and then do a normal un-install.

I was unable to reinstall Nortons so I could try to uninstall it again. What I had to do was find the process that was running ( the file it was located in)Move that (.exe)file out of its folder and reboot the machine. Then the process would start at boot and I was able to remove the folder and the (.exe) file. Unfortunatly this did not ake care of the whole problem. I still had something of Nortons in there not allowing me to reinstall. I found 2 tools on Nortons website that I ran that removed everthing and I was able to reinstall it. ONe is called Rnis.exe and the other is Rnav2003.exe Here is the link.
Thanks for the help
P.S. Spyware started this whole problem, some of it is nasty!!
