Hello.

We have a network with mixed windows 98 and windows xp machines. the main DC is windows 2000 running active directory. we also have a NT server for our ms exchange. the problem we are having is that when we set user accounts so that they must change their password at next login, on the 98 machines it gives us the error "Password could not be changed because the domain controller could not be found" whilst on the xp machines it works fine. Valid user accounts can logon fine using windows 98. I have set up a record in the LMHosts file which says:

10.0.0.10 myserver #pre #dom:mydomain

is their anything else i can try?

Have never seen a problem with this, but I do know that 98 is slightly different in that passwords are also stored locally. When a user is prompted to change his domain password, it works fine and then the user is prompted for a name and password for windows (locally). You need to specify the old password. Go into passwords in the control panel and change the windows password to reflect the new domain password. After that you won't be prompted for a domain and local loggin.
