Cannot enter a reconciliation Fiscal Period that is earlier

Under Bank Reconcile Statement:
Error Message "Description: Invalid input. You cannot enter a reconciliation fiscal period that is earlier than the previous reconciliation fiscal period."

If you are trying to reconcile for month of Jan 05 but Reconciliation year/Period doesn't allow you to type in 2005-1 but only 2005-2... what are the effects from leaving the year/period as 2005-2 for Jan bank rec...

What I can be done to not have the error message pop-up so that the bank rec can be done as correct year/period. Whats strange is that 2004-12 nor 2005-1 bank rec was never done. so why is this message saying that "Invalid input. You cannot enter a reconciliation fiscal period that is earlier than the previous reconciliation fiscal period"
