I'm working on a computer that cannot browse many websites (such as logging into ebay), receiving a message that cookies are not enabled on the browser. This particular client normally uses the AOL browser. I get the same results using IE6.

According to the XP Internet Options screen, cookies are enabled. I've even tried checking "Always allow session cookies" with no change in the results.

I downloaded the Firefox browser and Firefox has no problem with cookie handling at all.

Summary - on this computer, 2 out of 3 browsers do not use cookies regardless of the browser or XP cookie settings.

Normally I'd just advise the client to forsake the IE6 & AOL browsers and just use Firefox, but he is used to the AOL browser and prefers to use that.

All comments & suggestions will be appreciated?

Thanks

It's possible to override cookie handling for individual web sites. Maybe this has been done for sites such as eBay on the machine you're looking at. In the Internet Options dialog there's a section at the bottom of the Privacy tab where you can edit these overrides - have a look there.

Nelviticus,

Thanks for the suggestion. However...been there, done that.

At this point, I'm fairly certain that it's a glitch somwhere in the Internet settings, since AOHell informed me that they are no longer use a Netscape-based browser, but are using an implementation of IE, which would explain why Firefox isn't affected.

I may be able to repair it by doing a repair install of Windows, but that may or may not solve the problem. Fortunately, I think I've finally convinced my client to use Firefox, although I need to find a way to copy his Favorites from the AOL browser to Firefox. Unfortunately AOL exports their Favorite Places in a proprietary format which can only be imported by another AOL browser. However, I think I have run across a method for making this transfer...but I digress.

Thanks again,

S

For the issue you are having I work only with Internet explorer on a daily basis. please give this a try

click start, run, type sfc /scannow and have the cd ready.
also go to the restricted sites and remove all sites from there. please let me know if this helps if it doesn't i'll find something else for you.
