I was trying to push Symantec Corporate Antivirus a new machine that has XP on it. I got the following error:" Unable to detect the standard network share. ADMIN$." This normally occurs if the SP2 firewall is turned on. It's off; in fact I disabled the service to be sure. I also cannot browse this machine from the domain controller. However, I can ping it. I also can browse to the machine from another pc on the network. This machine also had
AOL ;o( installed on it. I had him remove all of this. I still cannot connect. Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow... that's pretty rough if you can't even get the Admin$ to prompt you...

How difficult would it be to reimage the box or drop it in and out of the domain again?

Also, I'd recommend you disable the ICS and ICF service as well as it's separate from the security center service I believe.

If you type NET SHARE from the XP workstation do you see the ADMIN$ share? If not simply share the C:\WINDOWS folder with share name ADMIN$ and try installing NAV again.

The net share is correct and can be seen from other machines on the network.
We have also joined a workgroup and came back into the domain.
Also we manually installed NAV Client on the XP machine. The server picks up activity in the NAV mmc and he can get the live updates from the server.
I failed to mention that the server is SBS 2000.
We have also check and recheck for spyware and viruses, nothing. We have also edited the gpo on the XP machine. This machine operates fine out and in except for the Windows Small Business Server 2000 cannot access it from the network. Thanks Again.
