I have a sql server database successfully installed (using msde) on a server running windows xp professional. I can connect to the database locally as well as remotely from any windows xp machine. However, when I attempt to connect on any machine running window 2000, I receieve an error stating the server cannot be found.
Please Note: the sql server is in "sql server authentication mode" the user is "sa" and the password is NOT BLANK. I am attempting the connection using OSQL (which I installed manually on the remote machine) as well as an ODBC datasource. Either tool in my opinion should rule out a problem with the "tool" if you know what I mean.
Last point: I have found that installing MSDE on the remote machine fixes the problem, even after uninstalling it. But this is QUITE a workaround.
Any thoughts as to why this is (i.e. what is the w2k machine missing) would be helpful.
