An apache web server was built yesterday. It has been DNS'd using the fully qualifed domain name. We have tried host files also and no luck. It doesn't matter if you try to connect to the server using IE or Netscape, or even if you are on the same subnet. They both just time out and it seems that ther server is just not allowing any connections at all.

If somebody could please provide some tips on what should be tried next, it would be greatly appreciated. And plus it may save my day!

Thanks...

It may seem stupid, but check to see if apache is running. You failed to say what os so for linux you would use the command: "ps -ax | grep httpd".
Otherwise make sure if you have a router or similar device that you have ports forwarded appropriately.

Hope this helps. Rninja

Open your browser and type"localhost". If your webpage comes up or the apache test page, then apache is running. Other than that, we can't help you much unless we know the OS and whether you are on a network. If apache is running AND you are not on a network, then type the ip of the server and you should get the same page. If not, open httpd.conf and edit the line that starts with Listen xx.xxx.xx.x:80 and put your ip address there. Then look for the line that starts with ServerName. It should look like this:

ServerName yourdomain.com

You do NOT need the All sub-domains of yourdomain.com will be covered. Some people like to have their sub-domains defined as vhosts but this will work for now. Remember that every time you make changes to httpd.conf or other apache .conf files, you must always restart apache. Once you do this apache should work if you have an index.html in the DocumentRoot.
