1) what version of CF are you running?
2) (if CF 5) are you connecting via a system DSN, or are you using a DSN-less connection?
3) if a system DSN, what driver did you set it up with?
I am just clicking on "data sources" and add. Giving a name and trying to connect to an Access sample db so I can practice.
Tooled,
Thanks for the link, i downloaded the latest MDAC components and installed and restarted, but the same thing happens.
The wierd part is that on my wife's computer at home - i am able to connect to an Access db and use the Dreamweaver and Coldfusion MX programs. AND she doesn't even have Access Installed!
Have you tried setting up a System DSN (using the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC) control panel) and connecting CF to it through the DSN?
I'm pretty sure CF has it's own MDAC components that aren't updated during a typical install of the MDAC's you'd get from Microsoft's site. That install would more than likely update the drivers used when you set up a System DSN, though... making that route a better bet.
I've only set up an Access connection via a System DSN, and via DSN-less connections in CF5. Never tried to connect directly to the file in Administrator, the way (it seems) you're trying to do.
Yes - I am trying to connect directly from the CF Administrator.
"Have you tried setting up a System DSN (using the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC) control panel) and connecting CF to it through the DSN?"
OK - i tried this and I get a new error
"The setup routines for the MIcrosoft Access driver (*.mdb) ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver"
Then "Component not found in the registry"
Have you installed the XP service pack? The reason why i mention this is because sp1 will contain the latest MDAC components and the Jet components.
If you have already installed the sp1, then I would suggest to give the reinstallation of MDAC and Jet components one more try. Maybe the lunar eclipse last night screwed things up the first time through.
Success! I had to use the Spanish one. "Driver do Microsoft Access" - the English version isn't in the list. I don't understand why not, but it works now. So - THANKS!
