Cannot collect for output

HI,
I am using Quark Express 4.1 with windows XP.
Having created a 12 page document, Quark is crashing when I try to 'collect for output'.
Error message below appears
C:/DOCUME~1/default/LOCALS~1/Temp/WER5A.tmp.dir00/appcompat.txt

Part of a log file is created, but no pics are collected.

I have been using the same system and same hardware for 2 years without any problems

Does anyone have any idea why and what I must do to get round this?
