I am using a program called excel speedgen to export a query done on a sql database in an aspx page to an excel file. When I go into the excel file, select an exported date, and try to change the format to another date format, nothing happens, I've tried unprotecting the document, copying the values to a new cell and reformatting, and it still does not work.

Any ideas why it won't let me change the format?

Sounds like the dates have been imported as text

Put a 1 in a cell
copy it
Select all the dates
Edit>Pastespecial> Values + TICK MULTIPLY

Now format your dates !
