Cannot bring back "Welcome" screen

I graduated from college in May and every since then I have not been able to bring back the Welcome screen that has icons for each person who has a signon for the computer. At school we had to have Novell installed on our PCs in order to log onto the school network. I uninstalled Novell and now I when I go to change my options in the user settings part of the control panel and restart my computer, the welcome screen does not appear. Instead I get the "normal" user name / password login. My thinking is that when I uninstalled Novell, the uninstall missed some things in the registery? Can anyone help me return my settings back to the way they were before the install?

The fundamental issue is the logon gina file used. The netware client replaced the msgina.dll in a linked chain, and the chain is now broken.

I downloaded the gina.dll VBA code and double clicked it and didn't seem to see anything happen. I logged off and logged back on while making the changes for Welcome Screen in the control panel, and nothing happened? What am I supposed to do? Did I do this right?

When I ran the patch, I got a message that said that the msgina.dll was present and not broken? Any more ideas?

Control Panel, User Accounts, confirm that the Welcome Screen is selected for logon.

Start, Run, control userpasswords2, "Advanced" tab
Make sure the lowest panel box is unchecked.

I tried that fix tool again and now it says the .dll is in use. Just an FYI

Double-click the file, and agree with the prompt to merge the contents with your registry. Restart the computer.

I still think there is an msgina.dll issue from the removal of the Netware client.

I will further guess that what is happening is because at some point between installing Netware, and removing it, you have done subsequent updates to XP through Hotfixes and or Service Packs.

If a reinstall does not fit your currrent plans, at least do a:

Start, Run sfc /Scannow

Alright, I ran that Scannow thing. It ran for a good 15 minutes, and then disappeared when it was done. I restarted my computer and nothing changed. I have ran Hotfixes and Service Pack 2 since I was in school. I'm sure that has something to do with it. Are you suggesting a reinstall is the only thing left that I can do to restore the Welcome Screen?

Something incredibly simple dawned on me: right-click My Computer, Properties, Computer Name.

Are you still listed as being in a Domain instead of a Workgroup?

Unfortunately, the computer is being listed as a workgroup, not domain. Tonight I will try the other links listed and give an update. I must say, I just want to thank you so much for all the work and effort you've put forth thus far. I'll get this thing fixed sooner or later!
