Outlook 2000; Windows 2000:

I keep getting the following error when attempting to archive.

"Error while archiving folder "InBox" in store "[my mailbox]." Some items could not be copied. They were either moved or deleted, or access was denied."

FYI, our network server was rebuilt after a crash.

Why can I not archive my own messages now? Can some setting be employed to correct this?

The only suggestion the sysadmin types can give me is to open each and every message, close it, and then run the archive procedure. THAT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Oh by the way, I have tried all the functions "set as having been read" I could locate in Outlook ... did not resolve the problem.

Here, I want to do the housekeeping and I'm thrown a horrific time-consuming procedure for doing it ... grrrr.

When your server crashed were the directory structures the same as they were after the restore as before?

Does/did your email client store mail on the server. If so, check to see that you have the same access rights that you did before. If not, you may want to do a test. Have the server "administrator" log onto your machine. With administrator priviledges, if you have a "rights" issue, they should be able to run the archive procedure.

If all esle fails and you must have the files, forward them to yourself. this will create a new record when they are recieved. At that point you can mark the whole lot as read. Eventually (accoring to your settings) the new records will be archived. You can delete the old ones.

The last option is the least perferable but should work. If you refuse to open and close the message to re-write the record, this is the alternative. Marking a reacord as read or unread only changes the charcter style from bold to normal.

Note: If you have an excessive number of records you want to save (1,000+) and you use the last option, I suggest sending them to yourself in small bunches.

good luck
