Hey...

I'm wirelessly trying to access files on my main PC from my laptop. But in Network I can not see my main PC. (All settings had been fine and worked between the two at the start, somehow it's 'lost' its settings).

I've gone to Network on my main PC and can see my laptop - however when I try to click through to my laptop, my main PC says "X30 Laptop is not accessable. You might not have permission to access this network resource. Access denied".

Just to point out I am on full Administrator privialages on my main PC and laptop.

Thank you in advance...
Anton

Are there any clues in either Event Viewer?

Some semi-related links that might give you a few things to try?

Hey...

Thank you for all your suggestions - I've moved forward, but 50% solved! Bcastner, I followed your advice first of checking Browser, Workstation, Server and Netbt Helper services are running - they weren't and have activated them on both machines.

Here's the thing - on my lap top, I can now see all the drives on my Workstation (which I couldn't before). However, on my Workstation, I can still see my laptop, but when I try to cllick through, I still get the XP message: "X30 Laptop is not accessable. You might not have permission to access this network resource. Access denied".

Perhaps is my Workstation being denied access by my laptop and I need to tick a box of someting on my laptop's configuration for this to work...?

Thanks in advance...
Anton

Hey.. double checked the Netbios settings on both PCs (and changed to ensure they were doing what the link said)... I restarted both machines, but still the same error from Workstation to laptop. Laptop to Workstation is fine now.

Is the server service still running on the laptop?

Have you checked for any firewall interference on the laptop?

How does the laptop behave if it is viewed from the Workstation while running the laptop in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

What errors, if any, are in the Event Viewer, other than those caused by being in Safe Mode?

Hey...

Yes, Server. Computer Browser and Netbios over TCP/IP running on both machines and all connections in the case of the TCP/IP...

I've switched on my 2nd Workstation and it has the same hassle accessing the laptop's hard drive as the first Workstation.

On the laptop, Start, Run, Net User Guest /Active:Yes

Curious - Does the Group "Everyone" appear under the security tab for the share on the laptop hard disk?

Sorted! Thank you!

I looked under the Group settings in the security tab, as you suggested - the correct boxes were ticked.

Then, I looked under Sharing. Network Sharing was ticked. I un-ticked, hit apply and re-ticked the Network Sharing box, then apply - and it kick started itself.

I can now see the laptop on the Workstations!
