I use net sessions frequently to match users with machines. Net Sessions usually gives me what i always thought was a list of currently logged on users and their machine names. I have noticed though that I can have users who are logged on to the domain but do not show up with net sessions. I even checked both domain controllers to make sure they were not authenticated on the other domain controller. Can anybody tell me what is actually being reported by net sessions if it doesnt actually give me current active sessions?

I also noticed that name resolution seems to be random. Some clients names are resolved, some just show up as IP addresses. The clients are all configured identically. Can anybody tell me what might cause that?

thanks for any comments

When used without options, this command displays information about all of the sessions with the local server

it also only displays incoming connections which would be why you have users who are logged onto the domain but have not queried that server
