I have a camedia, which records movies in .mov format, I can read quick time, but not edit. XP has a windows movie editing software that I would like to try, but it cannot open .mov files.
Can I convert .mov into something like: .avi .mpg etc...? How? Is it recommendable?
How do I publish videos online (so far I just put the file on my server and if someone clicks it, it will play: but I'd like to have a page with a still and a link to download.
Also, what is a good way to make the files smaller???
thanks
Anne

1. Quicktime Pro versions can export out to AVI with ease ( just set everything to uncomrpess video). YOU need pro, not the free version.

2. To do it in Pro Version, when you have a mov file open in it, under FILE there will be and EXPORT function. Just follow the menus and you can render any mov file into avi.

3. to publish movies on the web, suggest just zipping/stuffit them. That will prompt and auto download. Otherwise you'd need to look into a "download" script ( )

4. To make your resulting avi;s smaller, render in any other codec (Ie DIVX = or Indeo - search google - I suggest divx) . OR turn your AVI's into mpegs ( look for Tsunami Mpeg Encoder its freeware )

I solved a similar problem using Radvideo tools. They do a free download (donations welcome) program that allows you to convert files. A great program.
I used this it turn a video taken on my digital camera around through 90 degrees so it was the right way up on the screen. To do this I converted the .mov file in frames in jpegs and then rotated them in an editor (Thumbsplus) and then reassembled them into .avi or Bink file.

I have some MPEG4 video segments I may want to convert. WIll QTPro convert those from .mov to .avi or .mpg? What is the compression hit? I am very very happy with the fantastic compression ratios for MPEG4 and would hate to lose out. For Example: 3min 51 sec segment 320/240 15 FPS at 41.1k/sec stereo sound at 44.1 kHz 16 bit --> 9.583 MB

Thanks for any feedback/comparisons
